It is one of the most modern carrier of information, enabling you to read text data, reproduce sound, picture and animations. Great disk capacity and durability of stored information make the CD-ROMs very useful for data archivization, documents creating and distribution of publications. The following information sources are stored on CD: encyclopaedias, dictionaries, bibliographies, books and periodicals.
Below we present CD-ROM data bases, which can be useful when searching for information within physics and astronomy. We give basic information about databases and instructions for users.
*** INSPEC - the leading English-language bibliographic information service providing access to the world’s scientific and technical literature in physics, electrical engineering, electronics, communications, control engineering, computers and computing, and information technology.
**KOSMOS - multimedia data base containing knowledge about the Universe in various forms: texts, films, animators, photographs, maps of the sky.
**SOURCES OF ENERGY - multimedia data base in English containing information in the form of texts, animated pictures, photographs and films about energy sources, theories of their origins, methods and places of their exploitations.
*ENCYCLOPAEDIA OF SCIENCE - multimedia encyclopaedia comprising entries from such fields of science like physics, chemistry and mathematics.
*THE NEW GROLIER MULTIMEDIA ENCYCLOPAEDIA - multimedia encyclopaedia comprising the entries from "Grolier’s Academic American Encyclopaedia".
* MULTIMEDIA ENCYCLOPAEDIA OF THE UNIVERSE - contains knowledge about the Universe, photographs of the sky, films, animations, three-dimensional models of starships, archival recordings and handbooks for observators.
