The University Library has two computer catalogues working in systems:
ISISand HORIZON.
ISIS
ISIS data bases are divided into three groups:
CATALOGUES:
The catalogue of the Main Library, Independent publications (books), Foreign periodicals catalogue started in 1994, Central catalogue of post-conference materials.
BIBLIOGRAPHIES:
National Bibliography, Polish Bibliography of Journal Contents, Pomeranian bibliography, Polish periodicals.
DIRECTORIES:
Subject index of the systematic catalogue, Dictionary of subject headings of the National Library, Directory about libraries of the Torun region, Information about the University Library networks.
When searching for information on physics or astronomy, following data bases may be very useful:
Catalogue of the Main Library (KAT)
- contains bibliographical descriptions of books and Polish serials published after 1985 and of current library acquisitions, regardless of the place and year of publication
- data base currently updated
Foreign periodicals catalogue started in 1994 year (CKAT)
- contains bibliographical descriptions of foreign periodicals subscribed by the University Library with list of their sources and places, where they are stored and available
- data base currently updated
Central catalogue of post-conference materials (SYMPO)
- contains bibliographical descriptions of post-conference materials available in the Polish Institutes of Technology libraries and in the NC University Library
- contains mainly the post-conference materials on such subjects like: technology, agriculture and medicine
- data base updated every three months, sometimes more often
National Bibliography (PRZ)
- Polish current national bibliography started in 1986 year
- data base updated once a week
Polish Bibliography of Journal Contents (BZCZ)
- current Polish bibliography of journal contents - since January 1996
- data base updated once a month
Register of Polish serials with ISSN (CP)
- list of Polish periodicals with ISSN number
- data base updated every three months
Search strategies
All data bases mentioned above were created by the means of CDS/ISIS software packages. We can search these data bases according to following entries:
- books: author, title (when a book is a collective work), subject headings, title keywords, title of book series;
- periodicals: title keywords, place of publication, publisher, ISSN;
- conference materials: title, organisers, place and year of conference, title keywords, keywords related to the subject matter.
HORIZON
The computer catalogue in the Horizon system contains bibliographical descriptions and locations of books, periodicals and serials from current acquisitions. It does not cover all library holdings. You have to search for publications of your interests in the traditional card catalogues and in the computer catalogue ISIS.
