The European Evenings
|
|
The European Evenings are open debates about European matters, which:
- support the idea of European Integration and the first election to
the European Parliament
- give presentations on the European Union Institutions and
countries and topical issues.
From April 2003 the International Centre for Information Management Systems
& Services regularly organized European Evenings. Financial support was
provided by the Town Office in Torun.
The primary aim of The European Evenings was promotion of European Union
integration through public debate. Consequently the first meetings
supported Torun's preparations for the accessional referendum, described
countries of the European Union, initiated activities to support
participation in European programmes, prepared the way for elections to the
European Parliament, and initiated discussions about the European
Constitution.
Each Evening had a different character, but in each discussion by the
participants was central. In The European Evenings we had as guests many
prominent citizens of Torun, for example Ernest Bryll, Roza Thun and also
guests from abroad (e.g. The Netherlands).
Young people from European School Clubs in Torun and students were also
involved.
The European Evenings were held in various places in Torun: in Artus Hall,
Learned Society building, House of Muses and Burgher Hall of City Hall.
Culture was not forgotten. In this connection we organised concerts by
talented pupils, the choir and orchestra from the music school, Kadzioleczka
folk band show and exhibitions of paintings.
