Krystyna Berak

Education:

Initially she graduated from the Economical Community College in Torun with a technician economist major. Next she graduated in the primary course on scientific-technical and economic information in Warsaw. After that she completed a two-year external training course in the same discipline in Poznan, which was organized by the Centre of Scientific-Technical and Economic Information. In 1981 she received a Master's Degree in Information Science and Bibliography at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun.

Work:

In 1969-1972, during the building of the Nicolaus Copernicus University campus in Torun, she worked as a finance clerk in the personnel-salary department. Since 1972 she has worked at "Tofama S.A." in Torun, first as a specialist in the technical library and later as a specialist in library standards. She has wide professional experience in gathering, analysing and making available publications and scientific-technical information. She knows very well standards problems in industrial and technical issues. She has also cooperated with the University of Nicolaus Copernicus Library and Industrial Plants Libraries in Torun in loaning books between libraries and also scientific-technical and standards information. She has had also a lot of contacts with all-Polish Centres of Technical, Standardization and Information Technology Publications. Her library standards and information technology work has followed a European standard ISO that was introduced in "Tofama S.A.

Additional and social work:

In 1979-1988 she coorganized and led the student ministry Library in the Holy Spirit Church in Torun.

In the Independent Self-Governing Trade Union "Solidarity" times (1980-1981) she led the company union library.

Work in ICIMSS:

As an administrative director she is responsible for the functioning of the office for personnel, organisational, material and administrative matters.

She is also coorganizer of ordinary and extraordinary meetings of ICIMSS and the European Evenings.

Psychology, history, bibliographical literature, theatre.
She has climbed many difficult trails in Tatry.
