EuropeanaPhotography (2012-2015)
The EuropeanaPhotography is a 36-month EU project that is aimed at collecting more than 500,000 photographs and handing them over into the repository of the European Digital Library called Europeana. Photographs are to come from the century preceding the year 1939 (before the outbreak of the WWII). They are to be carefully selected on the basis of their artistic, historical and documentary values. Thanks to the EuropeanaPhotography project, users will be able to make themselves familiar with the development of the given field of art, starting with the first daguerreotypes from the mid-19th century, through the invention of colour photography from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, till the first decades of the 20th century and gradually more popular 35 mm still cameras.
The EuropeanaPhotography project is being carried out by 18 partners. 6 of them are entities from the private sector, including Alinari (Italy), TopFoto (UK), Imagno (Austria), Parisienne de Photographie (France), Polfoto (Denmark), United-Archives (Netherlands). 3 of the participating partners are public institutions, i.e. Istituto Centrale per il Catalogo Unico (Italy), Generalitat de Catalunya (Government of Catalonia, Spain), and Centre de Recerca i Difusió de la Imatge (Centre for Image Research and Diffusion in Girona, Spain). There are also 4 museums partaking in the project, including Arbeidermuseet in Copenhagen (Denmark), Theatre Institute in Bratislava (Slovakia), Lithuanian Art Museum, and Museum of History of Photography in Krakow (Poland). 4 partners are universities and associations, i.e. NALIS (National Academic Library and Information System, Bulgaria), ICIMSS (International Centre for Information Management Systems and Services, Poland), National Technical University of Athens (Greece), and Catholic University in Leuven (Belgium). The implementation of the project is being supported by Koninklijke Musea voor Kunst en Geschiedenis (Royal Museums of Art and History, Belgium), which within the scope of the project is responsible for the issue of multilingualism, also by the National Technical University of Athens, which deals with the technology of transmitting data to the Europeana, and by Promoter (Italy), which conducts the procedures of quality control and coordinates the activities of the project participants.
